Fur Trade
Era/Lewis and Clark Experience
|
|
|
|
 |
|
|
|
- Story telling and demonstrations
by people who live the life. Camping with
Crazy Cyot (ie. Coyote) and his partner Star
Gazer is not your typical reenactment, their authentic
spirit will educate and inspire you.
- Encampment will include reliving
the daily routine and the excitement of the fur trade
era. Numerous individuals will be offering hands on
experiences in cooking, beading, quilling, brain
tanning, and firearm demonstrations.
- Lodging will provide the
opportunity to actually spend a night wrapped in Buffalo
robes and sleeping in a tepee.

Fort Hall Replica &
Museums The fort hall replica is a
wonderful display of period lifestyle and replicates one of
the northwest’s earliest fur trading forts. On the same
location as the fort is a wonderful park area with shelter
and stage for Dutch oven dinners, mountain men presentations
and dances. Adjacent to the fort complex is our zoo
comprising of animals native to the area including grizzly
bear and buffalo.
Just a brief mile away is the
museum of natural history, focusing on a wonderful dinosaur
exhibit and ongoing youth activities.
The
Shoshone-bannock tribe hosts a marvelous museum and gaming
hall less than 10 miles away. The museum curator Rosemary
Devinney is always a joy to listen to as she shares her
native culture. And as a reminder - Sacagawea was a Lemhi
Shoshone and her descendants still live on this reservation.
