About Pocatello
| |
Pocatello was named after a Chief of the
Shoshone-Bannock Tribes who donated land the city now occupies to
the Railroad. Pronouncing the name is easier than you think; try
poke-uh-tello. Our neighbor to the North is Chubbuck and it’s easy
too; Chub (as in a tiny bit overweight) uck (like a truck). |
| |
How big is Pocatello?
| |
Pocatello has a population of approximately 52,000 and Chubbuck
which is separated only by a city limits sign, has a population of
approximately 10,000.

Does a river run through it?
| |
Yes, a river runs through it. The Portneuf joins the far more famous
Snake River at American Falls reservoir just north of
the city. Unlike most rivers in the United States, the Portneuf
flows to the north. |

| |
Are the nights cold?
| |
We are both high and dry which means the temperature at night is
commonly 30 or more degrees (F) below daytime highs. Bring something
with long sleeves. |
| |
How do I get there?
| |
Driving will expose you to scenery, which runs from merely
interesting to spectacular. Or book one of several daily flights by
Skywest and Horizon airlines.
| |
Do I need a car?
| |
No. Several hotels offer shuttle service, taxis are available, and
there is a bus service. However, if you want to explore, and we
recommend it, you’ll want to get a rental.

| |
Can I bring my friends?
| |
That depends on how many friends you have. We have 1200 rooms, so
unless you are very, very popular we can handle it.
